From Chaos To Clarity: Lynne Cadenhead’s immaculate® Journey
Who is Lynne?
Hello, I’m Lynne Cadenhead, co‑founder and CEO of Immaculate®. I’m a three‑time founder, an angel investor and a life‑long champion of women in business. If there’s one thing that sets me on fire it’s the glorious, messy start‑up stage. Give me a whiteboard covered in half‑baked ideas and a team buzzing with possibility and I’m in my happy place – trying to create order out of entrepreneurial chaos!
What’s your role in immaculate®?
Conducting the immaculate® orchestra - at immaculate® I’m the conductor, not the soloist. I set the tempo, wave the baton, and make sure every brilliant player in this all‑female ensemble gets their moment to shine. Collaboration is our secret sauce: flavour experts, brand storytellers, operations ninjas - each one essential to the symphony we’re building.
What inspired you to start immaculate®?
immaculate® started a few years ago after an emergency operation forced me to rethink my relationship with alcohol. Overnight, my beloved G&T left me with three‑day hangovers - torture for a self‑confessed party girl! I missed the ritual, the fancy glassware, the feeling of inclusion. So, I decided to create the drink I couldn’t find: a grown‑up, flavour‑packed, alcohol‑free G&T that would hold its own at any bar. One kitchen experiment led to another and soon, immaculate’s juniper‑bright, lemony‑fresh recipe was born.
What does “Cleaner Taste. Clearer Mind. Kinder Choice.” mean to you?
Our motto is my mantra:
1. Cleaner taste – pure, all‑natural botanicals and sparkling Scottish tonic. No shortcuts, no nasties. Simple and uncomplicated.
2. Clearer mind - waking up refreshed, remembering every laugh, making healthier decisions in life and business.
3. Kinder choice - kind to myself, kind to the planet, kind to the community. We source responsibly, give back to charities, and keep our supply chain transparent.
And my guiding North Star? Be kind whenever possible - and it usually always is possible when you put your mind to it. But on the rare occasion for your own wellbeing when it’s not, walk away gracefully and keep trying to be kind and do good elsewhere.
Lessons From Three Start‑ups
My first company was, frankly, a disaster. The second one did pretty well. immaculate® is the greatest adventure yet because I’ve poured every scar‑earned lesson into it:
1. Plan for profit AND purpose from day one. They are of equal importance to myself and my co-founders. Sweat‑equity team, lean ops, clear impact goals, authenticity and transparency.
2. Everything ALWAYS costs more and takes much longer than longer than you think. As a rule of thumb, it will take you twice as long as you think, cost you twice as much and you will earn half as much as your wonderful forecasts suggest! Bake that in. Optimism is wonderful; realism and cash in the bank keep you alive.
3. Ask for help. It’s usually always there if you ask for it in the right way. Asking for help is a sign of courage, not weakness. If you don’t ask, you won’t get it!
What have been your biggest high and toughest hurdles with immaculate® so far?
Seeing our cans roll off the production line for the first time. Cue happy smiles from ear to ear, photos and an impromptu dance party on the factory floor. It’s such a great feeling when you first hold in your hands a product you have developed from start to finish!
The toughest? When the exciting first production run above didn’t work quite as expected - back to the drawing board and start again!
Balancing building a start-up whilst working full-time elsewhere and juggling multiple responsibilities. It’s not easy, I won’t lie! But I tell myself to relax and just keep putting one foot forward in front of the other every day – we will get there.
And saying no to opportunities that don’t fit our values is hard - but essential if we want to stay…well, immaculate.
What’s your Vision 2030 for immaculate®?
immaculate® is more than a drink; it’s a lifestyle rooted in inclusion, wellbeing and everyday celebration. In the next five years I picture:
1. immaculate® stocked in every major UK bar and retailer and on flight menus at 30,000 feet.
2. A thriving and inclusive online community swapping #ImmaculatePours and mindful‑living tips.
3. An eventual sale to a value‑aligned global house, unlocking scale and freeing capital to seed an equity fund - my dream investment pot for the next wave of food and drink innovators.
Quick‑Fire Fun
1. Favourite immaculate® pour? Straight from the can, ice‑cold. What you see is what you get - a bit like me!
2. Soundtrack on repeat? Queen – “We Are The Champions”. My family were all very competitive swimmers and some of them broke a Guinness World Record to that song. It still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it!
3. Film comfort: A toss-up between Cary Grant “The Bishop’s Wife” for old‑school charm and class, and “Coco” – I cry at the end every time I watch it!
4. Grounding ritual: Friday‑night immaculate®, phone snuggled asleep up in my ScrollAware Smaart Pocket, candles on, big exhale.
Words I Live By
“Keep your head, heels and standards high.” Coco Chanel
(My cat Coco is named after her, naturally.)
Thank you for being part of our journey toward cleaner taste, clearer minds, and kinder choices. We’re just getting started, and I’m thrilled you’re here for the ride.
Stay immaculate,
Lynne
