Meet The Makers: Hamish Martin – The Botanical Alchemist Behind immaculate®
Every immaculate® drink begins long before it’s poured - it starts in the soil. In the garden beds and the carefully tended leaves and roots of botanicals grown with reverence for nature. And that’s where Hamish Martin comes in - our botanical whisperer and original recipe creator.
Hamish is not just a plantsman; he’s a trained herbologist with decades of experience in growing, blending and distilling nature’s finest. His journey has taken him from bustling commerce to quiet, restorative corners of Scotland - and ultimately, to the heart of the immaculate® flavour story.
Before immaculate®, Hamish had already made waves in the botanical world. He created the Secret Herb Garden, a unique and award-winning nursery dedicated to growing herbs organically, without a single chemical in sight. There, he not only cultivated plants but also curated an entire experience around them - establishing a botanical garden and distillery that produced both non-alcoholic and botanical spirits for some of the UK’s most iconic names. Think Fortnum & Mason, Harrods, M&S… names that know a thing or two about quality.
When Hamish moved to a peaceful pocket of Perthshire in Scotland three years ago, it wasn’t to retire. It was to rewild. Today, he’s immersed in a remarkable nature restoration project (you can follow it @cotwild on Instagram), reviving indigenous plants, ecosystems and biodiversity. And it’s from this place of deep connection - to land, plants and purpose - that he contributes to immaculate®.
Hamish was instrumental in crafting our original flavour blend: a precise, mindful combination of juniper, lemon balm and other botanicals that honour the spirit of a traditional G&T, without the alcohol. With decades of herbal knowledge under his belt, Hamish didn’t just want to create something that tasted good — he wanted to create something honest. Something rooted in the real power of plants.
His ethos is simple: “To spend the rest of my life intrinsically involved with the plants that surround my home.” For Hamish, this isn’t work - it’s purpose. And we’re honoured that he shares it with us.
So, the next time you enjoy an immaculate® G&T, know that its clarity and depth come from someone who lives and breathes botany - who’s dedicated his life to understanding what grows, how it heals, and what it means to create something in harmony with nature.
